Future of the Electronics and Telecommunications Industries in Australia: Recommended Guidelines for Future Policies; Proceedings of Conference, 6-8 March 1978, Melbourne, The
The National Committee on Electronics and Telecommunications has been concerned for some time about the situation confronting the electronics and telecommunications industries in Australia. It therefore set out to take of the current situation and to determine what steps should be taken to improve it. Accordingly, a conference was arranged in March 1978, at which the leaders of industry, Government and academic institutions could meet in a neutral forum to discuss the situation in an environment free from the stress and objectives which are usually present when such leaders meet. The general conclusion arising from the conference is that the electronics and telecommunications industries in Australia are in a very depressed state, characterised by falling markets, staff reductions and very low investment. It appears that there will be little expansion or increase in investment until a fairly clear, long term lead and policy is given by government.
