A Skilled Hand and Cultivated Mind: A Guide to the Architecture and Art of RMIT University records the importance of art and architecture in the University’s history, as well as charting some of the changes in Australian art and architecture over the last 120 years.

Starting with the Francis Ormond building, the University’s first home, the book tours the campuses and gives a glimpse of the future, with plans for exciting new developments, including the Design Hub on the corner of Swanston and Victoria Streets in the city.

This is not a book designed to sit on a bookshelf or coffee table. It is a guide to your explorations of RMIT, to help you understand the history and significance of the buildings and the artworks that have been part of the lives of many students and staff, and to encourage you to dig deeper to discover hidden treasures.
